Whole-House Systems
Some of the most exciting work Audiodesign is doing today is in the field of whole-house
automation and multi-room audio/video systems.
Home Automation
"Home automation" is a broad term which encompasses many types of system integration. At
Audiodesign, our goal is to be certain we're choosing the appropriate level of
automation for you. We tailor every system to an individual or family, and never offer
cookie-cutter solutions.
The purpose of home automation is to simplify your life. With that goal, wired or wireless
keypads from Crestron can take
a confusing array of switches, knobs and buttons and integrate them into one easy-to-use
touchscreen keypad mounted into your wall.
Examples of the types of systems which can be managed from this single point of contact include
multi-room audio/video systems,
lighting control systems, HVAC, security, internet and home networking.
Multi-Room Audio/Video
The concept behind multi-room audio/video systems is that there is one stereo system, centrally
located and accessible throughout the house and grounds.
Keypads, touchscreens or volume controls - no larger
or more obtrusive than light switches - are strategically placed throughout the house. Depending on the user's needs and budget, the degree of control
over the stereo from room to room can range from
the ability to control the volume of the system, to choosing different cd's, radio stations
or sources altogether from location to location.
When choosing elements of a multi-room system, there are four main product categories which
need to be determined:
Sources and Components
Sources determine which type of audio you would like to listen to. They can include
CD players, satellite music, MP3 players, hard drive music storage, turntables, tape decks,
tuners, or databasing systems.
Loudspeakers
Speakers must be located in each room which needs sound.
Loudspeakers come in many forms, including floorstanding, bookshelf and
flush-mounted speakers. For whole-house systems, many people enjoy in-wall or in-ceiling
loudspeakers, which provide excellent sound without being a visual focal point in the room.
Control System
The heart of the multi-room system, and largely what determines its ease of use and features, is
the control system. For example, Niles manufactures an easy-to-use system consisting of
centrally located equipment with volume knobs strategically placed to independently
control the speakers in different rooms. AudioAccess, Xantech and McIntosh provide
the ability to select different sources (CD, radio, tape, etc) from different rooms
in the house using a simple and aesthetically pleasing keypad system. And at the most powerful
and complex end of the scale, a Crestron system allows the control of audio and video as well
as many other elements of your house through a system of wireless or wired touchscreens or
keypads - see Home Automation.
Installation
One of the areas where Audiodesign's craftsmanship is most in evidence is in its installation
ability. Whether wiring existing or new construction homes, programming touchscreen remote
control systems or cutting in speakers, Audiodesign maintains the highest standards of
professionalism.
Satellite
Of the three major types of television distribution available --
cable, off-air and satellite -- satellite offers
by far the greatest number of channels and
variety of programming.
Satellite systems are now offering New York local programming, making them an even more attractive
alternative to cable.
The majority of satellite television is provided
by DirecTV or Dish Networks. Both providers are also starting to offer limited high-definition
programming. DSS also offers dedicated music stations which offer uninterrupted genre-organized music with
no DJ's or commercials.
At the time of installation, we find a discreet place not visible from the front of the house, the street
or other critical areas to place the satellite dish, which measures as little as 18 inches in diameter.

Phone Systems
Audiodesign can provide whole-house phone and intercom systems, including room-to-room
intercom, front door or gate communications, and multi-phone-line management, including
rollover lines, fax lines and dedicated computer lines.
