Disappearing Act

The Disappearing Act theater, at first glance, is a multi-purpose family room. It has a wet bar, fireplace, game table
and living area, finished in a lovely cherry wood.
In "stealth mode" the projector and screen are hidden in custom-built enclosures in the ceiling,
revealing a 36-inch Loewe television for everyday use.
The screen, projector, motorized window shades and room lighting
are all controlled by a Crestron remote control, so the room's operation is as intuitive as it is flexible.
With a single touch, the room transforms
into a full home theater. A Runco 947 CRT projector,
encased in a custom-built motorized lift, drops from the ceiling
and projects the larger-than-life image onto a cinema-sized screen. The motorized
window shades descend to block ambient light and the room lights dim. The full theater experience is about to begin.
The in-wall and in-ceiling speakers are similarly designed to make the most of the room's multiple uses.
They have been carefully faux-painted to match the grain of the cherry wood that panels the walls and ceiling. When in use
by the theater,
the architectural speakers act as the rear surround-sound channel, complimenting Meridian Digital Surround front and center channels
and the pair of Velodyne subwoofers.
When the room is not being used as a theater, the in-wall speakers provide ambient music to the room - they act as one zone in a twelve-zone AudioAccess
whole-house audio system. Working closely with the room's architect, designer and builder we were able to create an
aesthetically striking room
for the client that satisfied all their entertainment requirements as well.
